  7.   EZ-Copy Lite  was  written by  MaeDae Enterprises  based  on  FastCopy  by
  8.   Systems, Software, Support of Houston, TX.

  10.   EZ-Copy Lite  turns your computer into a high speed  diskette  duplicating
  11.   machine  equalling  the  performance of many dedicated  hardware  diskette
  12.   duplicators costing thousands of dollars.   Comments  or  suggestions  for
  13.   improving EZ-Copy Lite will be appreciated.

  15.   EZ-Copy Lite requires  an  IBM PC or compatible with 640K of RAM.  Display
  16.   adapters  known  to  work with EZ-Copy Lite are the  IBM monochrome (MDA),
  17.   color (CGA),  enhanced  graphics (EGA),  and  video  graphics  array (VGA)
  18.   adapters.

  20.   EZ-Copy Lite supports  160K, 180K, 320K, and 360K format 5 1/4 inch disks.

  41.      installation portion  of EZ-Copy?   Use  the  installation  portion  of
  42.      EZ-Copy Lite to set up a new default help/manual path.

  45.   General help for all menus:
  46.   
  47.   This menu is broken up into two basic windows.   The  window  at  the  top
  48.   of  your screen shows several options to choose from.   The window at  the
  49.   bottom  of  the  screen expands on what  will  occur  if  you  choose  the
  50.   highlighted option (the one that has a different background color).
  51.      
  52.   Options may be selected in one of two ways.   You  can  either  press  the
  53.   first letter of the desired command  or  move the highlight bar  over  the
  54.   desired option and press enter.   To move the  highlight  bar  use  either
  55.   the space bar, up arrow, down arrow, left arrow, or right arrow.   You can
  56.   also use home to move to the first top line item on the menu.

  58.   Using the first letter of a command only works in the  ACTIVE  window.  If
  59.   you  don't have any pulldown then the active window  is  the  top  window.
  60.   Once you pulldown one of the options that becomes the active window.   You
  61.   must use one of the commands in the pulldown once it is active.    You can
  62.   always  use Escape to back out of the pulldown and return to the top menu.

  65.   You  are  now  using  the EZ-Copy  Lite  Main Menu.   From  here  you  can
  66.   access  the main functional  areas  of  EZ-Copy.   Refer  to  the  On-Line
  67.   Manual to get a feel for what a fully featured diskette duplicator can do.

  69.   Please note that an abbreviated directory window will appear in the middle
  70.   of your screen as soon as a valid source diskette has been loaded. It will
  71.   show the diskette volume label (if any) and the first four file names.

  79.   Drive  was  not ready for read/write.   Please ensure you have a floppy in
  80.   the drive and the drive door is closed.

  82.   Sometimes on very fast AT compatible computers with 1.2 Mb diskette drives
  83.   the drive can't respond quickly enough.   In this case try  the  operation
  84.   again  or  add  a  utility  to  modify the timeout on the drive.   Several
  85.   programs are available to fix this disk drive timeout problem.

  89.   An error was detected  while trying to read your source diskette.   Please
  90.   ensure the diskette is inserted in the specified drive and that the  drive
  91.   door is closed.  Also you might try to take the diskette out and re-insert
  92.   it back into the drive.   Sometimes the diskette isn't centered  correctly
  93.   within the disk drive.

  95.   The  source  was not loaded so you will not be able to  make  any  copies.

  97.   Only standard 160K,  180K,  320K, and 360K diskette formats are supported.

  101.   EZ-Copy Lite  could not save the diskette in memory to the diskette in the
  102.   designated drive.

  104.   Please ensure:    1. The diskette isn't write protected.
  105.                     2. There really is a  diskette in the destination drive.
  106.                     3. There is no obvious physical damage to the  diskette.
  107.                     4. You aren't trying to save to a 1.2 Mb diskette  in  a
  108.                        360 Kb disk drive.
  109.                     5. You don't have any disk cache software that is trying
  110.                        to buffer writes to your floppy drive.
  111.                     6. You  really do have the specified destination  drive.
  112.  
  113.   This error may be generated on some hard disk based systems where you boot
  114.   from the hard disk.  Try  booting from a floppy containing your DOS.   The
  115.   problem may go away.   We have seen this happen with certain  versions  of
  116.   DOS, specifically Compaq DOS 3.31 and IBM PC DOS 4.0.  We will continue to
  117.   research the problem and provide an update ASAP!

  142.   contains information.   Any  cluster with a . doesn't contain information.

  146.   section of EZ-Copy Lite.

  155.   very confusing at first.   DOS uses all this information and more to  keep
  156.   track of information stored on floppy diskettes.

  158.   As  the  IBM PC and DOS has evolved over the last  few years  so  has  the
  159.   formats of the media used in the computer.  This has caused a large number
  160.   of formats for the media.   EZ-Copy Lite uses the following drive types to
  161.   track this.

  163.   0  320K  Double sided, 40 track, 8 sectors per track
  164.   1  160K  Single sided, 40 track, 8 sectors per track
  165.   2  360K  Double sided, 40 track, 9 sectors per track
  166.   3  180K  Single sided, 40 track, 9 sectors per track

  168.   Other information displayed on this page will need to be looked  up  in  a
  169.   DOS technical reference manual.   You can easily obtain a book  containing
  170.   this information from your local computer store.

  202.   laws.   Copyrighted  information  is  stored  on  the boot tracks of  each
  203.   diskette.   So we are forced to perform the format in two steps using  the
  204.   DOS FORMAT program that came with the DOS for your computer.

  206.   Step 1: Format a diskette using the  DOS FORMAT  command.   See  your  DOS
  207.           manual for details.

  209.   Step 2: Load and copy the freshly formatted diskette just as you would any
  210.           other using EZ-Copy Lite.   Use the forced format option for  best
  211.           compatibility with other machines.

  217.   Use  of  this  option   is  highly  recommended  for  companies  producing
  218.   diskettes  which  need  to be read on the widest range of  computers.   By
  219.   forcing  the  format of a diskette you guarantee that data  is  laid  down
  220.   cleanly  on the new tracks.   If  you simply write over old  data  without
  221.   reformatting  the  diskette it can cause some problems  with 1.2 Mb floppy
  222.   drives.  The 1.2 Mb drives are very picky on the AT.   By reformatting the
  223.   floppy it helps readability.

  225.   Use  of the  forced format option will cause the copy  operation  to  take
  226.   about 50% longer than saving to a formatted floppy without forced format.
  227.   If you  are  constantly  saving  to  blank  unformatted  diskettes  it  is
  228.   strongly recommended that you set the default at  forced format.   Without
  229.   forced format EZ-Copy Lite first tries to write to  the diskette,  if that
  230.   fails it will then set forced format to on for  this  one copy  only.  You
  231.   can save the one or two seconds test time by telling EZ-Copy Lite  to just
  232.   go ahead and format the floppy without testing to see if the  diskette  is
  233.   already formatted.

  237.   This  option  allows  you to  define the default  path for  accessing  the
  238.   on-line manual and context sensitive help.   Make  sure  you  include  the
  239.   index files  (.INX)  along with the help and manual  files  (.TXT) in  the

  244.   This option alows you to enable/disable the  sound  or  beeps  on  errors.
  245.   Some  people  find  programs  that beep on errors to  be annoying  (me for

  251.   This menu allows you to change all the colors used in  EZ-Copy  Lite.   To
  252.   change a default color - first use the up or down arrow key to select  the
  253.   color, then type in the new color.   When you have changed all the  colors
  254.   press Ctrl+D to display these colors in a  sample  window.   As  with  all
  255.   installation options,  these changes will not be used until you choose the
  256.   retain option on the main menu.   This allows you to experiment  with  the
  257.   installation options  and then not have to lose your original defaults.

  259.   Please  keep  in  mind  the  foreground  text  colors  can  be  0-15,  the
  260.   background 0-7. If you choose a text color the same as a background  color
  261.   then the text will disappear.  You may notice some of your installed color
  262.   combinations  result  in  invisible lines  on  the  Ctrl+D  popup  window.
  263.   Please be careful not to choose this color for one of your text colors!!

  265.   Note:  For  many of the EZ-Copy installable options and  user  inputs  you
  266.   will  see a prompt containing the characters  .   If  you  count  the
  267.   number of 's you will find the maximum number of characters that  can  be
  268.   entered.   Also  Escape is used throughout EZ-Copy to signal "I want out".
  269.   Press Enter, up arrow, down arrow, or whatever  is  asked for to enter the
  270.   desired value.   Escape  will  throw away any  immediate  changes and  get
  271.   you out of the area you are in.

  275.   foreground color (0-15) is two digits long.   That is why you will see the
